Photovoltaics, the basics

They've been around longer than you have

They've been around longer than you have

That's right.   Thanks to the good ol' government and some inventors like Albert Einstein who discovered the photovoltaic effect, this technology is older than your grandfather.   Back during the cold war (ask your grandfather), there were defense contractors (who shall go unnamed) building satellites with photovoltaic panels on them.  So yeah, you're not so old, take heart.  Silicon has been around the block a few times.   Now it's time to put some on your roof, to help you save some of the green stuff, the benjamins, so you can take your spouse or your kid or your parents out to dinner more often.  That's where we can help.

Designing your system.  Getting permits.  Then we'll do the hard work of climbing on your roof, setting up all the OSHA required safety gear, researching the best hardware and sealants to use on your roof, so that you can sleep well knowing that you will be making money every time the sun rises and when it rains, it's not going to get into your house.  Photovoltaic (PV) systems are typically getting installed with some amount of battery capacity, because that's the way it's going.   The utilities don't really want to pay you a lot of money for your photons, because they are getting plenty of their own photons from solar farms that are bigger than ten football fields somewhere out it the Central Valley so why should they pay you for photons from your silly little roof installation.   So you put in some batteries as a way of saying, ok, Edison, you don't need my photons, then I don't need yours so much.   Bring it on they say, oh it's on now, we got a new cold war, it's us against the utilities (but of course we need and love utilities, also known as IOUs, or investor-owned utilities.   We love them so much that we want to be like them, be our own utility, to the extent we can afford.   We'll help you do that.   Charge your car, cook your meals, heat the house, whatever we can do with the rays from good 'ol El Sol.
